Camera: At the start of the music video, there is a close up of Daniel Merriweathers eyes. This has been done to show the genre of the song and the emotion of the music. The eyes look sad which tells the audience that the song has a mellow tone and upsetting feel to it. The medium close up of him and his girlfriend is showing them arguing with a simple calm background, which shows a contrast and suggest that it is a place where arguments don't normally occur. We can tell that the setting is supposed to be calm and tranquil because there is an antique cello in the corner, as well as vases and statues in the windows. Throughout the video there are close ups of Daniel singing, this is to show the emotion he feels when singing the lyrics and the upset he is going through when they argue. Fast paced camera cuts are used when they argue, this is done so that the audience feel tense and it makes the video come across more realistic. In the lyrics; the word "love" is frequently used. When the word is used, the camera is focused on the woman. This shows that Daniel loves the girl and thats what he thinks of when he hears the word.
Mise-en-Scene: Both of the people in the video wear casual clothing, this again suggest a calm, laid back atmosphere. The rooms they are in are quite messy which could symbolise that their thoughts are messed up and their relationship is at breaking point. At the end of the video, their clothing is dark, which suggests mystery and dullness. Also, towards the end of the clip; Daniel is outside when it says "you take the best bits". This could be telling the audience that he is more of an outdoor person, who prefers being outside than inside creating arguments.
Sound: At the start of the clip the music builds up as he approaches her which suggests that he is nervous and doesn't know what to expect. Daniel sings louder when he is on his own, which could portray that he cant show his full emotion when his is around her and he feels more himself when he is alone. Also, the vocals and backing track get significantly louder towards the end of the video. This could be showing the fact that the relationship has ended and he is angry, upset and disappointed. The music fades out at the end, along with Daniel, this could signify that everything he had has dissapeared and he is left with nothing.
Editing: All the way through the video, the shots are fading into each other. This could show the audience that nothing is changing in the relationship. The woman is very often in silhouette, this could be showing that she is mysterious and suspicious. Throughout the video, it is edited so that their are multiple shots of the same person on the screen, this could suggest that Daniel has a split personality, perhaps the reason why they are arguing in the video.
Lighting: The lighting is very dark all the way through the clip, which suits the mood of the lyrics and music. It tells the audience that they are upset and sad. In the middle of the clip, the music builds up and when this happens a spotlight is spinning round the room. This could show that Daniel is going slightly crazy, he is angry and frustrated or that he is mad for the woman and cant bear to loose her. Towards the end of the clip, the lighting goes red, this is done to fit in with the title of the song and to make it more obvious.

After spending alot of time listening to songs by James Morrison and James Blunt, i feel that their songs are all very similar and i wanted a song with a bit of edge or a twist to it. So i decided to change what song i wanted to do. After listening to Daniel Merriweather's song - red, i thought about idea's for the video and CD cover and it became obvious that i had more idea's and creative thoughts about this. But i also wanted the song to be more contrasting and perhaps acoustic, so i scanned youtube and found a Radio 1 live lounge cover of the track by Shontelle. This would be perfect for my coursework as it adds a twist to the original idea. Therefore i will now be focusing my research on the work of Daniel Merriweather and Radio 1 live lounge.

I feel that over the past month of using forums, they have been unsuccessful and haven't helped me further my research into music video's. Therefore I wont be using forums as a form of research any more. Instead I have decided to research into the directors of music videos, analyse several music videos, design digipacks and analyse them.
