Research - James Morrison Forum.

I have recently been signing up to forums which are related to the artists music i am considering basing my coursework on. I think the forum research has been a success because it has helped me to see what aspects i want to consider and what things i can confidently say i dont want to put in my coursework at this moment in time.

After posting a post on the James Morrison forum, someone got back to me in an hour of posting the idea, which shows me that people are interested in the work im doing and want to offer their advice and ideas.

Here is the reply i got from my post:

I have also replied to the comment and will be posting that part of the forum when i recieve a reply.

Research - Forum - James Blunt

I have conducted some research through the use of forums. From thinking about what style of music i would like to do for my media project i decided that posting on forums on the artists official website may bring mack some useful feedback/advice. It took less than a day for someone to reply to my topic, which shows me that using forums can be very useful in getting ideas and feedback. The respondant came up with an idea, which i feel is irrelevant to what i wanted to do. However, i have taken into consideration what they person posted and asked for any other advice. They then later posted a link to someone else's topic who created an animation(sims) music video for a James Blunt song. This has made me consider the possibility of using animation in my project and i will be looking into this further, through contacting the person who created it and asking for their advice.

Here is the forum where i found the information:

Research - Intertextuality examples.

James Morrison: All of these images clearly have intertextuality. This is shown through the main image, the style of font, the size of font, James Morrison's logo, mise-en-scene and the emotion of the image. All of the main images are of the artist and are medium close ups. The photographer will have used medium close ups to show the emotion on his face and also the relaxed pose he is portraying. The style of the writing on the cover are all the same, including the same font size and colour. This has been done to show the similarities and to make it clear that they have been created by the same artist. The mise-en-scene in the picture are all related. The background of the picture is a relaxed scenario, portraying the genre of the music. The clothes that the artist wears throughout the covers are all relaxed and laid back, which again shows the style of music. The emotion of the artists face are all quite sad and unhappy. This could show the audience that the style of the music is slow with a depressed tone. The artist is always looking down to the floor which shows us that he is unhappy and this again suggests the genre of his music.

Research - Intertextuality.

After discovering what genre i am going to base my project around, i decided that looking into the intertextuality of the bands/artists would give me some idea about the album cover and poster i will need to create.

Intertextuality is the way that things relate to each other, in other words, what similarities they have that make them obviously linked.

This aspect is important for people working within the music industry because their work needs to be clearly linked to attract the audience. If parts of the promotional items arent linked then it isnt obvious what artist created them. So therefore creating a digipack with intertextuality would guarantee that people know who's music it is and will find it more appealing to them.

Artists who use intertextuality affectively are:
  • James Morrison
  • Taylor Swift
  • Maroon 5
  • The Fratelli's
